I feel privileged to live in Cornwall and be a part of the Falmouth scene as I am constantly inspired by the oceans ever changing wild beauty. The moment I step foot on a Boat or a Cornish Beach it all starts. I go into “eagle vision” and start scouring the scene for the perfect composition. The ocean is so dynamic and has many moods and capturing them can be quite a challenge. The backdrop of Cornwall’s beautiful coast line is an all important factor to me when creating a shot. Sometimes it all comes together and I can stand there happily clicking away. Other times I need to get closer to the action even if that means getting myself into a dicey situation and risking it all.
The beauty of nature is all around us at all times, but there are brief moments when a combination of elements presents themselves in a truly spectacular way. Anybody who is fortunate enough to eyewitnesses one of these tremendous events will look back warmheartedly upon the memory. In order to be in the right place at the right time, it’s necessary to understand the complex interactions between light, weather, landscape, seascapes and the tides. And it’s important to have a deep respect for this planet and its inhabitants. I hope that photography can bring people closer to nature and encourage them to preserve it for future generations.
